How do I find an NIH Grants.gov Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA)?

There are two ways to locate an NIH FOA

  1. Grants.gov – To locate NIH FOAs available on Grants.gov access the Grants.gov search grant opportunities web site. You can then search for the specific FOA by:

    1. Keyword

    2. FOA Number

  2. Note: Do not search for an NIH Grants.gov FOA by CFDA number.

  3. NIH – To locate NIH FOAs, go to the NIH Guide for Grants and Contracts (NIH Guide)

    1. Once in the NIH Guide, use the search screen to locate the specific FOA of interest.

    2. Click on the button located in the FOA. This will take you to the Grants.gov web page specific to this FOA.

Now that I have found the FOA, what is the next step?

After finding an FOA, the next step is to download and save the grant application package and instructions. To do this you must:

  1. Click on “How to Apply”.

  2. A table will appear. Click on the “download” link to download the instructions and application. If you would like to be notified of any changes to this opportunity please remember to enter your e-mail address at this time in the box provided.

  3. Immediately save the downloaded grant application and instructions to your computer (desktop, hard drive, shared drive, or etc.). Now you are ready to work on the application.
