Step 6: Grants.gov Validates Application Package and Forwards to NIH
How do I know the Grants.gov submission has been validated by Grants.gov and forwarded to NIH?
There are two ways to determine if the proposal submission through Grants.gov has been validated and forwarded to the Agency.
-
E-mail correspondence from Grants.gov and NIH
-
Grants.gov will forward an e-mail to Proposal Processing stating that the item has been validated and forwarded to the funding agency. Proposal Processing will keep the department contact person (PI, department administrator, coordinator, etc.) updated as to the proposal status.
-
Shortly thereafter Grants.gov will send a second e-mail stating that the application package has been retrieved by NIH and is going through the NIH validation process. Again, Proposal Processing will keep the department contact person updated as to the proposal status.
-
Status update checks on Grants.gov and NIH
-
If no e-mail message has been received within 24 hours Proposal Processing can check the status of a Grants.gov submission via the Grants.gov web site. Proposal Processing will keep the department contact person (PI, department administrator, coordinator, etc.) updated as to the proposal status.
-
Alternatively, once the application package has been accessed by NIH, the status of the application can be reviewed by DSR, PI and designated contact person via NIH’s eRA Commons web site.
-
Note: Although NIH has stated that they will attempt to e-mail to the PI and Proposal Processing eRA Commons status updates of Grants.gov submissions there is no guarantee that such an e-mail will be sent or received. To ensure timely processing, both NIH and DSR recommend periodic reviews of NIH Commons to determine the status of previously submitted proposals.
